A dispute of land has worsened between the National Institute of Health (NIH) and World Health Organization (WHO) as the latter has illegally occupied NIH land and is not ready to vacate it despite the issuance of numerous notices. The international health organisation also has not even paid their rent since the last few years, sources in NIH have claimed.
A source in NIH told Pakistan Today that it had given eight canals of land to WHO on lease, but WHO also occupied six more canals of land in the surrounding area.
“The concerned authorities have sent a notice to the office of WHO Pakistan and asked it to vacate the land illegally occupied by it, but so far no positive development has taken place in this regard,” the source said.
NIH spokesperson Dr. Farnaz Malik said that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Health regarding the land dispute. The NIH has demanded within the letter that either the WHO vacate the land or pay rent of prosperity. The ball is in the Ministry of Health’s court, she said.
“WHO Pakistan is going to make a new agreement according to which it would be able to legally dwell on the six canal of piece of land that was initially illegally occupied by it,” she said.
To a question, she said it is yet to be decided how much money the WHO would pay annually as rent for a total of 14 canals of land that actually lies within the premises of NIH.
While talking to Pakistan Today the WHO administration in Pakistan has denied such kind of dispute between the two organisations. However, they admitted that there are certain agreements, which need to be resolved between WHO and NIH.
A source from within the organisation further went onto inform that there is no legal battle between NIH and WHO.
