Pakistan for strengthening economic ties with US: PM

Addressing a ceremony in connection with Pakistan-United States Economic Partnership Week in Islamabad on Monday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is committed to strengthening economic ties with the United States.

The week will open new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.

Sharif said country’s relations with the US constitute an important component of the Pakistan’s foreign policy. He said Pak-US relations from the last six decades are robust and wide-ranging.

The prime minister said Pakistan offers huge opportunities of investment in different sectors and the environment is also favourable for the investors. He said world financial institutions have indicated that Pakistan will make economic progress during coming years. He said that democracy is strengthening while judiciary and media are functioning in the country independently.

Speaking on this occasion, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker said that US is committed to work with Pakistan as a partner and friend in different sectors. She said that a stable, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan is in the best interest of the US which is ready to cooperate with Pakistan in the energy, security and trade sectors. She said Pakistan has been a strong ally of the US in the fight against terrorism and has rendered matchless sacrifices in this regard.
