Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) , Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry on Thursday joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, at a gathering in the federal capital today in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, welcomed the senior politician in the party ranks.
Khan said that there were no corruption allegations on Barrister Sultan and that he made a great decision for the masses in AJK.
About the alleged election rigging in May 2013 elections, the PTI chief said that the truth behind the poll rigging would be unveiled by the end of this month.
He also hit at the provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab for their sluggish attitude leading to a delay in local government polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He vowed to devolve power to the rural masses of the province, adding that the municipal system of KP would be one of its kind.
A close aide of Barrister Sultan said that the former PM of AJK had decided to part ways with PPP after battling within the party against rampant corruption in the government.
“Barrister Sultan met many times with PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpur to help stop corrupt practices in AJK government but to no avail. Finally, the barrister decided to part ways with the PPP leadership which looks compromised,” the source said.
On Wednesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Gilgit Baltistan (GB) President Mirza Hussain and PML-Q GB Women’s Wing President Amna Ansari joined PTI .
Former AJK law minister Khwaja Farooq is likely to join Imran Khan’s PTI soon.
