A team of officials from the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation (I&I), Inland Revenue Service (IRS), FBR confiscated numerous cartons of illegal duty evaded cigarettes in Super Market, F-6, yesterday.

The illegal cigarettes were intercepted at Ali Brothers General Store, F-6. The shop owner resisted the officials and was arrested on the spot. The Directorate has launched an FIR against the culprits.

According to sources, FBR has decided to start a country wide crackdown against duty evaded cigarettes; such merchandise causes a huge revenue loss to the national exchequer.  It is said that for the last two years the government has been warning retailers and wholesalers through advertisements, and by pasting stickers at retail outlets, to stop the sale of duty evaded cigarettes. However, no progress has been made in this regard.
