The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to reopen the Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar on January 12, almost a month after Taliban terrorists stormed the institution and left over 130 schoolchildren dead.
All other educational institutions in the province will also reopen the same day.
The government had ordered stricter security at all schools and educational institutions across the country following the carnage on December 16.
The government had also extended winter vacations due to security reasons and threats of further attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on educational institutions.
The terrorist attack – one of the worst in the country’s history – has plunged Pakistan into deep mourning and led to outpourings of condemnations and grief from across the country and internationally.
Public pressure following the incident led the government to lift a moratorium on the death penalty for convicts of terrorism cases, and the passage by Parliament of a controversial law giving legal cover for military courts to try convicted terrorists.
