Proving true to his reputation, the recent fury of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) President Makhdoom Amin Fahim has evaporated like a bubble bursts within a few days as he has reconciled with his newly appointed associate, Sherry Rehman.

But this is not a new retreat. Fahim had also retreated after making media accusations against PPP’s Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in 2008 when Zardari had nominated Yousaf Raza Gilani as PPP’s candidate for the slot of Prime Minister soon after general elections of 2008.

Last week, Amin Fahim got furious over the appointment of Sherry Rehman as Vice President of the party on the orders of party’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Claiming for being kept in the dark over the appointment, Fahim had not only held a quite meeting with former dictator Pervez Musharraf, he had also chaired a gathering of his Sarwari Jamaat.

A well-placed source in the PPP told Pakistan Today that after intervention by PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and some strong statements from PPP’s office-bearers from Sindh chapter, Fahim immediately receded from his reservations, issuing a statement from party’s secretariat that he had been consulted for appointment of Sherry Rehman but could not clarify as he was travelling.

Later, Fahim also welcomed the appointment of Sherry Rehman publicly.

“Not only Fahim welcomed Sherry’s appointment, she also accompanied him to the recently held All Parties Conference (APC). Fahim also asked Sherry to take his seat when he left the APC halfway,” the source added.

Sherry Rehman is now assisting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in her capacity as Vice President of PPP. She is also the founding Chair of the Jinnah Institute, a non-partisan public policy think tank committed to the strengthening of democracy, governance and an independent national security project in Pakistan.
