24 die, dozens injured in Punjab, KP fog-related accidents

As many as 24 people have died and dozens others injured in road accidents due to dense fog in different areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to details, at least eight passengers, including three women, died after a bus overturned in Saramela area of Hangu. Meanwhile in Abbotabad, a bus fell into a ditch on the Lora Road due to fog resulting in the deaths of five passengers and injuries to eight others. At least six people died on Chiniot-Faisalabad Road while two accidents in Pindi Bhattian claimed one life and injured at least three others.

Separately, two motorcyclists were killed when they collided with each other on the Zafarwal Road. A motorcyclist was killed in an accident with a truck on Hafizabad Road in Kot Mubarak area while another motorcyclist lost his life in an accident with a trailer on Okara Road in Depalpur.

At least 20 people were injured when a bus overturned on the Gujranwala-Lessar Kalan Road. As many as seven people sustained injuries in a collision between a truck and a bus on the Nawan Kot Bhakkar Road at least 40 kilometres away from Jhang.

As many as 20 people were injured as a bus drove into a ditch due to dense fog in the Bagowal area of Gujrat. The injured were shifted to the Jalal Pur Jattan Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Motorway Police on Friday decided not to close the motorway no matter how dense the fog gets.

Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema said that the vehicles would be moved in form of groups under severe fog. Motorway Police’s mobile van would move along with the vehicles.

However, the motorway would not be closed at any cost, he added.
