ISLAMABAD-
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday lifted the moratorium on capital punishment for convicted terrorists, private media reported.
The moratorium on executions was issued in year 2008 by the then president Asif Ali Zardari.
According to reports, the decision was taken following a meeting between Chief of Army Staff Gen.Raheel Shairf and the PM and it would come into effect within the next 48 hours.
The decision follows Tuesday’s deadly terrorist attack on a school in Peshawar in which at least 142 people, mostly pupils, were killed.
Currently, more than a thousand terrorists, who have been sentenced to death by courts, are jailed across the country.
