Several markets, schools remain shut, citizens observe three-day mourning, demand justice
Like other parts of the country, mourning day was also observed in the metropolis on Wednesday over the Peshawar school massacre in which over 100 children and some teachers were killed ruthlessly.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced to observe three-day mourning across the country over the horrific incident in Pakistan history that saddened whole nation.
In Karachi, major markets were closed to mourn the tragic incident. The business centres which remained closed included Zainab, Bolton and mobile markets.
The social activities in the city were also suspended. All educational and trade activities also remained suspended. The University of Karachi and all major universities also postponed their examination papers.
All Pakistan Private Schools also observed strike and closed schools. Many private schools were also closed in the city. The proceedings in Sindh High Court and other lower courts also remained suspended except few cases were proceeded.
Citizens held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) and others areas of the city against the killing of school children, while whole city population was seen saddened.
In the meanwhile, the mourning day was also observed throughout interior Sindh on Wednesday.
The social and business activities remained low in major cities and towns of interior Sindh including Larkana, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Dadu and Jacobabad. The people across the region were seen saddened, condemning the incident in strong words.
In Kunri town, a complete shutter-down was observed. Political & social organizations, teachers and citizens took out rallies outside local press club where they strongly condemned the incident and demanded strong action against those involved in the incident.
In Sanghar, business community observed a shutter-down strike. Several organizations, including citizens, staged a rally from Dilbar roundabout to Sanghar Press Club for showing solidarity with families of martyrs of Peshawar attack.
While addressing participants of the rally, leaders strongly condemned the incident.
Two minute silence was also observed in church and schools by Christian community in village Padri Jo Goth in district Sanghar over the Peshawar tragedy in which father of the church, Zafar Sharif, Nadeem Mushtaq, Master Munawar and others termed the incident as history’s worst.
Separately, on the appeal of political, social, religious parties, a complete shutter-down strike was observed in Matli to mourn the children massacre.
In Gharo Press Club, a condolence meeting was held under the leadership of Syed Imran Ali in which Saleh Mohammad Chandio, Dr Tariq Arain, Syed Zulfiqar other journalists participated and expressed deep grief.
