Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, celebrated International Volunteers Day on December 5 upon the direction of its Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer to highlight the role of volunteers in a community. The main focus this year was to create awareness and raise recognition of volunteers’ services, and the commitment and hope to work for a better world.
In this regard, Rawalpindi Emergency Service held an event at Central Rescue Station, Rawal Road, Rawalpindi. Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Country Head Neeva was the chief guest. Fire and Safety Association President Ghulam Muhammad Naz, Rescue Community volunteers and media personnel participated in the event.
Community Training Emergency Officer Deeba Shahnaz Akhter welcomed the participants on behalf of the emergency service and briefed them about volunteerism, role of volunteers for safer communities and contribution of rescue volunteers. District Emergency Officer Dr Abdur Rehman briefed the participants about service and volunteerism.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief g said, “It is an honour to meet an inspiring team of committed rescuers and Rescue 1122 volunteers on volunteer’s day and see the huge passion they all have to help others.”
The volunteers performed their skills which they had learnt from the emergency service’s trainers and participated in a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate International Volunteers’ Day. The volunteers were presented appreciation certificates in recognition of their services and new volunteers were also enrolled during the ceremony.
