Indonesian, Pakistani naval chiefs discuss avenues of cooperation

Chief of the Indonesian Navy Admiral Dr Marsetio called on Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah on Wednesday and discussed various avenues of cooperation between the two navies.

The Indonesian Naval Chief, who is on an official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Admiral Zakaullah, also held a detailed discussion on professional matters with his counterpart.

Earlier upon arrival at the Naval Headquarters, the Indonesian Naval Chief was received by Admiral Zakaullah. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy clad in ceremonial dress, presented him the Guard of Honour. He was then introduced to principal staff officers at Naval Headquarters.

During his recent visit, Admiral Dr Marsetio has also been conferred with Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military); one of Pakistan’s highest military awards, in recognition of his distinguished services and significant contributions in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia in general and their navies in particular.

According to press release issued by Pak Navy, the honourable dignitary joined the Indonesian Navy in 1981.

Besides holding the appointment as Chief of the Indonesian Navy, the Admiral has had the privilege to serve on coveted appointments including Vice Assistant to the Chief of the Indonesian Navy for Planning and Budgeting, Commander Military Sea Lift Command, Commander Western Fleet Command and Vice Chief of Indonesian Navy.

Admiral Dr Marsetio is a graduate of Indonesian Naval Academy and has received his cum laude doctoral degree majoring in cultural studies from Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta.

The Indonesian Naval Chief is also recipient of numerous military awards and honours, including Russian “Medal for Strengthening Combat Fraternity” and National Security Merit Medal `TONG IL’ from Government of the Republic of Korea.

This visit is expected to greatly augment the bilateral cooperation between both the Navies.
