Reminiscing about his party’s previous term in Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League–Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi lambasted current government’s “defective policies” in countering polio.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, Elahi claimed that when the PML-Q government had completed its term in 2007, there were “no polio cases in Punjab”. He boasted that his party’s performance in the health sector had been duly appreciated by all international organisations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Fund (ADF), Department for International Development (DFID) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
According to the statement, “During its regime, the PML-Q had launched successful and effective campaigns for elimination of polio, hepatises, AIDS and other dreadful diseases in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other International donor agencies at a cost of Rs 6.5 billion. Phased surveys and other preventive measures were taken under Malaria Roll Back Project in cooperation with district governments and International organisations.”
