At least six suspected militants were killed and seven others were wounded in clashes in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency where the military authorities launched a military operation last week.
The clashes took place in Sipah area of Bara Tehsil where on Wednesday, a militant attack on a Frontier Corps (FC) checkpost and a succeeding crossfire led to the martyrdom of two FC men. 10 soldiers were also injured in the clash.
The operation, code-named “Khyber One”, comes against the backdrop of a broader military operation in the lawless North Waziristan region south of Khyber, where the Pakistan Army has been battling to contain the insurgency since June.
The fighting concentrated around the remote Tirah valley and Bara area in Khyber Agency, where different terrorist groups have been holed up since the start of the operation in North Waziristan.
According to reports, more than 50 terrorists have been killed in Bara and Tirah Valley during seven days of the operation.
Moreover, a total of six thousand families have moved to safer places.
