PESHAWAR: Former managing director Bank of Khyber (BoK) Shamsul Qayyum on Friday challenged his termination order in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) claiming that he had been discharged from service illegally.
In his petition, Qayyum said that he should be allowed to serve for another two years keeping in view his exceptional performance as MD Bank of Khyber. He has made the provincial finance minister, chief secretary and finance secretary respondents in the petition.
Earlier, in a cabinet meeting, the provincial government gave in to pressure from the Jamaat-e-Islami and decided to relieve the BoK chief of his duties.
The BoK managing director was charged with breaching Section 7 of his employment contract by publishing advertisements and making baseless allegations against the provincial finance minister.
Qayyum had accused Finance Minister Muzaffar Said of the Jamaat-e-Islami of corruption and nepotism in a notice printed in a newspaper last year. JI MPAs had signaled to quit the coalition government if the managing director was not terminated.
