Govt says PEMRA suspended ARY News on LHC orders

The National Assembly was informed Tuesday that the government neither issued directives for suspension of ARY News licence nor for ban on its progrmme ‘Khara Sach’.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Sheikh informed the House in response to a point of order by an opposition member that the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) suspended the licence of the TV channel for 15 days and imposed Rs 10 million fine in light of Lahore High Court orders.

He said that LHC had ordered expeditious action against the channel for airing contemptuous programmes and had sought report of action from PEMRA till Oct 21.

About the ban on the programme ‘Khara Sach’, he said it was not banned on directives of the government rather the programme was banned on LHC orders.
