Week long IDP relief mela starts at Lok Virsa

A seven-day “IDPs Relief Mela” kicked off Friday at the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) Shakaparian with an aim to provide relief to the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The festival was inaugurated by, Lok Virsa Executive Director Shahera Shahid with a soft opening performance to express solidarity with the IDPs who have left their houses for the safety and security of the nation.

The festival features Artisans-at-Work exhibition, folkloric song and dance ensembles, performances by rural musicians, traditional cuisine, display by public sector organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and craft bazaar amongst others.

“Lok Virsa intends to donate all proceeds generated from the festival for the welfare of the IDPs of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) who have been dislocated due to ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb,” the Lok Virsa ED reportedly said.

The proceeds from the festival will be presented to the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage for forwarding to the IDPs through the relevant governmental channel,” she added.
