Irfan Ullah Marwat, suspended member of the Sindh Assembly, Thursday submitted his application in the Supreme Court against Sindh election tribunal’s decision declaring his victory illegal and void.
Irfan Ullah Marwat won election from PS-114, Karachi, but the election tribunal declared his election void in on the report of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) against verification of thumb impressions of votes cast at polling stations of PS-114 (Mehmoodabad) constituency.
The PML-N MPA approached the apex court against the decision of election tribunal. The tribunal had directed NADRA for verification of thumbprints on ballots in PS-114 constituency on the request of Rauf Siddiqui, his rival candidate belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Siddiqui had challenged the election results in the tribunal and requested it to order verification of thumb impressions. Marwat pleaded the court to set aside the tribunal’s decision and restored his Sindh Assembly membership.
