NWA tribal elders’ jirga requests government to clear NWA from ‘miscreants’ and put an end to their re-emergence as US, UK, EU reassure assistance for IDPs
A tribal jirga of North Waziristan elders, led by Sher Muhammad Torikhel Wazir, grand nephew and spiritual successor of Haji Mirza Ali Khan (Faqir of Ipi) called on Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Quadir Baloch on Friday.
Talking to the jirga members, the minister said that the government’s first and foremost priority is to take care of the NWA internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have left their homeland on the directives of the government, and to ensure their earliest possible return.
Wazir informed the minister that local tribesmen were fully supportive of the government’s action and want to get rid of the militants who had held the people of these areas hostage for the past many years.
He said the people of NWA were ready to undergo any hardship for the cause of peace in Pakistan and requested the government to take all measures to not only clear the area of miscreants but also to stop their re-emergence.
FOREIGN SUPPORT FOR IDPS: Meanwhile, the United States, Britain and the European Union (EU) have assured to extend all-out support for the relief and assistance of NWA IDPs.
The affirmation was given by US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olsan, British High Commissioner Philip Barton and a delegation of the EU at a meeting on Friday with the SAFRON minister.
The minister apprised them about the relief activities being carried out for the rehabilitation of the displaced families.
