Rs 38.9b released for HEC in FY2011-2012: Minister


Professional and Technical Training Minister Sheikh Waqas Akram, on Thursday, in response to calling attention notice regarding non-release of funds to Higher Education Commission (HEC), informed National Assembly that in financial year 2011-12 Rs 38.9b were released for development and non development expenditures.
He said that he also met Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and released Rs 2b for the salaries of the staff. It was wrong information created in media that HEC was being destroyed, he added.
He said further that the ministry was not informed about the cheque bounces and added that if they were bounced, why they were exceeding the budget.
In the notice, MNAs Abdul Majeed Khan, Khanan Khail, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Raja Muhammad Asad Khan, Nisar Tanveer and Surriya Asghar drew attention of the Ministry of Professional and Technical Training towards non-release of funds by government to HEC for last two quarters resulting in a lot of problems for 14,000 studying abroad.
