Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that helping the displaced people from North Waziristan was the government’s top priority and all efforts would be made to mitigate their sufferings.
“For us helping our people displaced because of Zarb-e-Azb is number one issue and we will do our level best to help them,” he said while chairing a meeting at the PM House.
Sharif said that the government would make sure that after the operation the displaced persons are rehabilitated in their homes with honour.
The meeting was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbassi and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid.
Qadir Baloch briefed the meeting about the present situation of the IDPs. He said that till Thursday, 566,000 people had been registered at IDPs camps in Bannu. He added that the IDPs were also being vaccinated for polio.
Qadir said that money for the IDPs was being handed over in a transparent manner and from July 8 onwards payment will be made through mobile cash transfers.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar told the meeting that the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet has approved 60,000 tons of wheat costing Rs 2.8 billion for distribution among the IDPs.
