Atleast two people, including a suspected suicide bomber, were killed and several others wounded on Friday when a powerful bomb exploded outside Mohajir Makki Mosque on Preedy Street in Karachi’s Saddar town.

The explosive went off when worshippers were coming out of the mosque after offering the Friday prayers.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Karachi Munir Shaikh said that the blast occurred when a suspected terrorist, carrying explosives on a motorcycle, collided with another motorcycle.

“We are investigating as to what was the intended target of the suspected bomber,” he said.

Rescue teams have shifted the wounded to Civil Hospital.

Taking notice of the blast, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah directed the provincial police chief to submit a report.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chairman Altaf Hussain condemned the blast.

Bilawal said that those killing innocent people were the enemies of Islam and humanity and wanted to destabilise Pakistan through terrorism and bloodshed.

Meanwhile, at least two people, including a policeman, were killed in separate incidents in Karachi.

A policeman posted at Garden Headquarters was killed in a firing incident in Gulshan-e-Mamaar area.

In a separate incident, a body was found from Lyari. According to police, the victim was tortured to death.
