Opposition leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the combined opposition had categorically rejected the Protection of Pakistan Bill (PPB) and it will float a parallel bill against it in the House.
Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House on Friday, Ahsan said that though the PPB was passed with a majority vote, the opposition has reservations over it.
Awami National Party leader Afrasyab Khattak, Balochistan National Party’s Kalsoom Perveen, Pkaistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Robina Khalid and Pakistan People’s Party’s Raza Rabbani were also present.
“The opposition terms the PPB a black law and we will resist it both in and outside the House, said Ahsan. He went on to say that opposition wanted effective legislation to be enacted against terrorism but it is not necessary that sweeping powers are delegated to any institution.
The senator called for a comprehensive law to be formulated against the terrorists, adding that “we are working out proposals keeping before us the government bill and we will pilot our bill against the government’s bill.”
