Government to open 1,000 new Utility Stores: NA told

Parliamentary Secretary for Industries and Production Rao Ajmal Khan on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that the government would open 1000 new Utility Stores across the country at cost of two billion.

Replying in the House during question and answers, Rao Ajmal Khan said that PC-I of the project had been submitted to the concerned department for final approval.

The project will cost Rs two billion and one Rs one billion will be contributed each by the government and the Utility Stores Corporation (USC), parliamentary secretary informed.

Rao Ajmal Khan said with opening new stores the total number of utility stores in the country will reach to two thousand. He said that the quality of commodities being sold at USC outlets had substantially improved and the annual turnover of the Cooperation is close to Rs 80.00 billion, which its self proves the confidence of costumers on the quality of the commodities.

Regarding non-payment of salaries of daily wages employees of USC, parliamentary secretary said that no instruction has been issued to stop salaries.

To a question, he said that the growth rate of industrial sector for the last financial year was 3.49 percent whereas the growth rate for the first six months of the current financial year stands at 5.4 percent. He said the confidence of the investors has improved on the government’s investment policies.
