Five days after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that electricity dues should be recovered on priority and a report in this regard should be presented in a week’s time, he found himself at the receiving end.
Gas supply to his official residence in the capital was cut off over unpaid bills of Rs 4.7 million.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) disconnected gas supply not only to the Prime Minister’s House but also to the Parliament Lodges, the Jinnah Convention Centre and the Shariat Court, among other government offices.
A SNGPL spokesperson said that Parliament House owed the utility Rs 1.3 million, the Parliament Lodges Rs 7,70,000, the Shariat Court Rs 2,24,000 and Governor House Rs 8.8 million.
Official sources confirmed this was the case but that these were old bills, which were not paid.
