KARACHI
Pakistan Railways (PR) Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq on Saturday expressed the determination that performance of the department would be improved by inducting new engines.
He was addressing a ceremony of inducting nine new engines imported from China in Karachi. It is first induction of new engines in Railways in 13 years.
The minister said Railways need four hundred more engines to revamp the department.
He said under the agreement, China will provide fifty eight engines by the end of this year and another consignment of twenty three engines will reach Pakistan shortly.
Rafique said that new addition in the PR fleet will significantly increase capacity of the Railways. He was confident that the induction of the new engines, would help increase the income of the loss making PR.
He said for smooth running of the locomotives, 50 PR officials have been sent to China for training. To a question, he said that former president Pervez Musharraf has fled to Karachi and now people of Karachi would decide his fate.
I just cannot understand why this minister cannot stick to his portfolio and stop making statements about Musharraf. The latter has neither fled nor is his fate in the hands of people of karachi.
