Opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah said on Monday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would sit for talks with the Mutahida Qumi Movement (MQM) if Altaf Hussain promised to eat his words regarding army and imposition of martial law.

Speaking at the party’s 30th foundation day at Jinnah ground, the party leader said the MQM had always been proponent of the martial law and they (PPP) would not let anyone to succeed in sabotaging democracy in the country.

“Dialogue is the part of democracy and the PPP will only go for talks with the MQM if Altaf Hussain withdraws his statement. If the party initiates dialogue with the MQM, it will create an impression the PPP is also supporter of dictatorship.”

“The government should not use the Pakistan army for their own vested interests and should not involve them in killing Muslim brothers in Libya, Syria, Bahrain and other countries,” Shah said.

Khurshid Shah condoled the death of JASQAM political leader and said that the opposition would not tolerate carnage of any political leaders. “We will raise this matter in the meeting of Senate.”

While replying to a question, he said new Sindh IG would be appointed soon as two names had been forwarded to the federal government for consideration.
