Ministers meet to review situation
On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif all necessary facilities have been provided in Cholistan and more steps are being taken for the betterment of the people of the area.
This was discussed in a special meeting of the provincial ministers held in Bahawalpur to review the situation in Cholistan on Wednesday.
Punjab Chief Secretary Naveed Akram Cheema directed that the supply of water to areas of Cholistan be ensured. He warned that stern action will be taken against anyone showing negligence in this regard. Taking notice of the closure of tube-wells of water supply schemes in some areas of Cholistan he issued orders for suspension of executive engineers and other officials concerned. The meeting reviewed in detail overall situation of Cholistan and evolved a strategy to cope with any situation.
The chief secretary directed the departments concerned to formulate a master plan for the provision of necessary facilities to the people of Cholistan.
He also directed that presence of doctors in all basic health centres of Cholistan be ensured and continuous monitoring of health centres be made for taking action against absentee doctors. He further ordered that mobile dispensaries be sent to the far-flung areas of Cholistan so that no person should remain deprived of treatment facilities.
He said that proper arrangements should also be made for the vaccination of livestock and provision of fodder. He also issued instructions that an effective information network be formed in all areas of Cholistan for obtaining latest reports.
The meeting was informed that 70 water tanks having 500 thousand litres of water have been distributed for the provision of potable water to the people. The chief secretary further said that situation in Cholistan is different from Thar, however, all officers and staff of departments concerned should perform their duties honestly and deficiently.
