Besides installation of jammers, the security of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur jails had been put on high alter with round the clock patrolling, the IG said while talking to media persons after attending the passing out parade of 7th batch of basic prisons constable course at Prisons Training Institute Nara on Monday.

He said security of the jails had been put on high alert following the threats of attacks from banned organisations. Sophisticated weapons would also be provided to all jails of the province within one month, he added.

Replying to a question about the possibility of escape of the prisoners, he informed that after Central Jail Sukkur’s incident in 1986, state of high alert is continuously maintained and the prisoners are getting facilities according to jail manual. Two stand-by generators in all jails with search lights are functioning in order to monitor the movement inside and outside the prisons, he added.

Around 90 percent construction work of Mirpurkhas jail has been completed, 50 percent to 60 percent work of jails at Nawabshah and Thatta has also been completed, he said.

He informed that the jail department had submitted proposals to the Sindh government for purchase of new weapons, construction of firing range and hostels, and it was hoped that these proposals would be approved soon by the government for the improvement of the department.
