Pindi residents flout ban on kite-flying; women among 11 injured in firing incidents
Despite a ban on kite-flying in Punjab, Basant Festival was celebrated in Rawalpindi amidst reports that 11 people including women were injured in firing incidents during the event on Friday.
The residents of Rawalpindi city flouted the Punjab government ban on kites-flying, slapped for the last several years, after chemical string cost many precious lives particularly in Punjab.
Arshad Jamil, a private employee hailing from Rawalpindi’s Qasim Market said that thousands of kites were seen on the sky while repeated gun shots echoed in the city but the district administration and the police did nothing.
Gunshot incidents in Hazara Colony, Pirwdhai, Bhabra Bazar, Dhoke Ratta and College Road wounded 11 people including four women and two minor girls.
Several people demanded of the CM to take notices of massive violation of ban besides taking stern action against the administration officers and police of concerned areas for their negligence and slackness in performing their duties.
