President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday urged the concerned authorities to ensure speedy provision of edible commodities, clean drinking water and medicines to the residents of drought-hit Tharparker.
The president stated this while chairing a meeting to review the recent drought situation in Tharparker district and the relief activities being carried out in the six Talukas of the district.
The president said the government would help the people affected by the drought in Thar and assured the Sindh government of all out support and assistance of the Centre in its effort to tide over the calamity.
Ministry of National Health Service, Regulations and Coordination Secretary Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and senior officials of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) gave a detailed briefing about the latest situation in Thar and the progress on the relief efforts.
Expressing deep concern over the loss of precious lives including children in Tharparkar, the president said stern action should be taken against those responsible for the negligence in distribution of wheat amongst the residents of Tharparkar which led to the unfortunate tragedy.
The president stressed the health departments and other relevant organizations at federal and provincial levels to ensure best medical treatment for the children and other patients.
