Health departments of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with a development sector organisation to ensure and facilitate health services to at least 30,000 rural women as well as capacity building of Basic Health Units (BHUs) in each province.

The selected health units are already working in Sharlabad and Kandhkot in district Kashmor; Bhong in district Rahimyar Khan and Civil Dispensary Misri Banda in district Nowshera. Under this arrangement, FACES Pakistan has started working to improve the efficacy and utility of basic women-focused healthcare services – both preventive and curative.

The non-government organisation will also provide trainings to the paramedical staff to enhance their existing knowledge about the health issues and advancements in the field of medicine, rehabilitation and expansion of facilities in the health units to increase access to healthcare services. Also, placement of 10 trained midwives as interns with each unit will be ensured so that they can disseminate information and provide services regarding reproductive health.

Considering capacity building of paramedical staff vital for the sustainable provision of quality health services, FACES Pakistan has so far successfully conducted 31 paramedical staff trainings in Kashmor, Rahimyar Khan and Nowshera. The topics covered in the trainings were immunization, health & hygiene, nutrition, behaviour & attitude of the staff, malaria prevention, and cleanliness of dressing room and harmful result of expired medicines.
