WHO wants to strengthen DHIS

World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with Government of Punjab Health Department, organized a one day consultative workshop on “Strengthening District Health Information System (DHIS)” in Punjab and “Dimension of DHIS Reports”.
The workshop was headed by Dr Syed Mohammad Mursalin, WHO National HMIS Officer. Dr Babar Alam, WHO Operations Officer Punjab, Director Health Services Management System, Dr Haroon Jehangir Khan, Additional Director Admin DGHS Dr Attiq ur Rehman were also present. EDO’s Health from selected districts and Statistical Officers from all districts of Punjab also participated in the workshop.
Mursalin, while addressing the participants said, that all information and statistics should be collected by Health Department Punjab from DHQ, THQ, policies; strategies, logistics, and human resources and should be compiled responsibly by Districts DHIS coordinators. “In that way not only comprehensive and authentic information could help health department to make policies and strategic decisions but a sustainable record would also be maintained. We need all information about what is going on regarding health department and where gaps in existing data are. We need data accuracy or consistency among facilities and districts units, said Dr Mursallin. He also emphasized on conducting regular analysis of DHIS data at district levels to improve the quality and strengthening of DHIS in Punjab.
Dr Haroon stated that the overall objective of the workshop was to identify the areas of future supports for improving the efficiencies of information system. He appreciated WHO’s step for training relevant staff members of health department to strengthen DHIS in Punjab. Earlier, a number of presentations by the officials of Health Department Punjab were also made, in which they declared to integrate all vertical information system in to one HIS.
