The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday reserved verdict on a petition seeking directions to increase age limit for post of sub-inspectors (SIs) recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

The single bench comprising Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh was hearing the petition filed by Fawad Aslam. Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the PPSC sought applications for posts of sub-inspector in Punjab Police.

It was mandatory for applicant to have bachelor degree and his age should not exceed more than 25 years, he added. He pointed out that no age limit was fixed for said posts in Police Rules 2002. He said that the posts were advertised after a gap of six years and no relief had been provided to candidates who did graduation six years ago. He pleaded the court to issue directions for age enhancement.

However, the PPSC counsel said that the PPSC was implementing terms and conditions set by Punjab Police. He said that the PPSC did not have any authority to change the conditions. He pointed out that the LHC already had dismissed an identical petition after declaring it non-maintainable.

The petitioner’s counsel replied that the petition was filed by in-service candidates. The court after hearing the arguments reserved the verdict.
