Water and Power State Minister Abid Sher Ali once again alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was providing protection to the power thieves.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Abid Sher Ali said KP Minister Shah Farman himself was involved in power stealing. He said there were more than one billion line losses in Farman’s constituency.
The state minister demanded of the provincial government to ask Farman for resignation.
He said PESCO officials are being thrashed and kidnapped for ransom in KP, adding that various feeders in the province were incurring billions of loss to national exchequer.
Abid Sher Ali said dams were not the personal property of anyone but the property of the people of Pakistan.
Abid advised PTI chairman Imran Khan to build new dams if he wanted free electricity. ‘You cannot get electricity without payment,’ he added.
Hand over PESCO in its full spirits to PTI and then after six months assess the progress.
You will not be disappointed!
Electricity Generation is a provincial/state matter all over the world. Two WAPDA’s were created in each province of Pakistan aka East Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority. and West Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority. Electricity distribution is provincial or local subject all over the world.
In 1969/1970, we recreated the provinces in the West Pakistan prior to first general elections but did NOT return several departments back to the newly created provinces in West Pakistan even though they remained provincial matter in East Pakistan..Railways, WAPDA, etc. are among them.
In Pakistan, it electricity distribution remained provincial/local matter in several cities till 1969/70. KESC in Karachi, Multan Electric Supply Company (MESC) and several other distribution companies remained in local hands even during the one unit and after the abolition of one unit till the early years of 1977 imposed Martial law.
Its high time to undo the ills of the successive martial laws. The provinces must trade surplus electricity just like any other commodity with rest of the provinces. Same should be the case for rest of the energy sector…gas, gasoline, coal, etc.
