Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that former President Pervez Musharraf will leave the country even if he was convicted by the treason tribunal.
Speaking in a TV show, Sheikh Rasheed said that China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the USA want Musharraf’s safe departure from Pakistan. He said whether he is convicted or not, Musharraf will ultimately fly out of Pakistan.
“If he (Musharraf) has done anything wrong, it was his Oct-12 step, which was also validated by the then corps commanders and former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry,” he said.
About North Waziristan, he said that all political parties had backed peace talks with the Taliban at the All Parties conference (APC).
Rasheed said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif were on the same page regarding launching of military operation in North Waziristan.
To a question, he said that Imran Khan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will not be on board regarding the operation, adding that it will be a big test for Fazlur Rehman as well.
He dispelled the impression that the NATO forces were pulling out of Afghanistan in 2014, saying that 25, 000 troops will still remain stationed there after the withdrawal.
