A major general, five senior officials and 10 soldiers of Iraqi army were killed in clashes on Saturday.
According to military sources, Major General Mohammed al-Karoui and 14 other soldiers were killed in a clashes during an army assault on an Al-Qaeda hideout in the western Anbar province near the Syrian border.
The militant hideout was situated in the Rutba area, about 400 kilometres west of the capital.
When the army troops attacked the Al-Qaeda camp, they were ambushed by suicide bombers and several booby traps explosions on entry in the buildings, the sources added.
