44 political detainees were set free on Wednesday by the Myanmar’s reformist government which is set to grant amnesties to prisoners in a series of reforms in the country.
President, Thein Sein has pledged to release all political captives by the end of 2013.
The reformist government took power in March 2011, making reforms to undo the previous junta’s prosecution that targeted its critics.
The Government has earned international appreciation as a number of western sanctions have been removed in the light of its restructuring the political system of Myanmar that included election of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to parliament.
