The electricity shortfall in the country has again mounted to 3,200MW, resulting in an increase in the duration of power outages in cities and villages across the country.
The duration of electricity load shedding in cities has reached up to nine hours a day, while villages face up to 13 hours of power outage daily.
Owing to the blockage of water in canals, hydro power generation has reduced from 5,000MW to 3,000MW.
According to the Ministry of Water and Power, the demand of electricity in the country now stands at 13,000MW, while the production has dropped to 7,800MW from 9,800MW. This includes 3,000MW being produced by hydro power plants, 1,615MW by thermal units of WAPDA and 5,085MW of electricity by Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
On the other hand, the citizens have criticised the government for failure to overcome the power crisis even in winter and complained that electricity outages now continue throughout the year.
