Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Monday the Punjab Right to Information Bill 2013 had been sent to the Press Council of Pakistan for debate and after complete reforms it would be presented to the assembly.
He was addressing a seminar ‘An Interactive Session on Implementing of True Vision of Punjab Right to Information Law 2013’ chaired by Raja Shafqat Abbasi chairman Press Council of Pakistan held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.
The minister said that right to information and freedom of expression were same things and every government had tried to give freedom of expression to people but now the PML-N government had prepared the bill.
Paying tribute to the activists, who faced jails, injuries and laid their lives for the movement of freedom of expression and right to information, he said that their names should be remembered when the law would be passed.
He said that the PML-N could pass the bill in one week but it was sent for debate in the public and it would be finalized after comprehensive consultation with all stakeholders.
He said that no society could make progress without a free media and the world now had become a real global village due to fast, effective and free media.
