Pakistan’s strategic capability will continue to follow its policy of credible minimum deterrence, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday.
While on a visit to the National Command Centre (NCC) of the National Command Authority (NCA), and a weapons’ storage site, the prime minister also reiterated that Pakistan wanted peace in the region and was not involved in any arms’ race.
The policy of following minimum deterrence had first been adopted by former president Pervez Musharraf and since his departure, this policy is being pursued.
Nawaz was accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shamim Wynne.
Strategic Plans Division (SPD) Director General Lt Gen (r) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, other senior military officers, scientists and engineers were also present.
Welcoming the prime minister, Kidwai highlighted that the NCC was a highly secure and fully protected facility. The premier was also briefed on the indigenously developed strategic command, control and support system, which was s designed to facilitate decision making at the NCC.
Nawaz was given a demonstration of the state-of-the-art connectivity of countrywide strategic assets which was an exclusive network ensuring effective control over the strategic assets by the NCA.
The prime minister commended the skills, expertise, professionalism and dedication of individuals as well as the organisations involved in the development of the NCC and the requisite support systems.
He later visited a technical site where he was briefed by the commander army strategic force command. Nawaz expressed complete satisfaction over the safe, secure and fool-proof security architecture in place for the physical safety and security of the country’s strategic assets.
As far as our defense isconcerned we can not tinker with our nuclear program. We must bring Pakistan's defense to par with our enemies. which are trying to weaken us for their own vested interest. we can not rely on foreign friends for the security of the country.
It is good that P.M has vusuted these place. but his statement of keeping the minimum deterrence is ridiculous. We need to become invicible. We must meet the needs of uur defense without compromising our safety and security. The enemy on the border has violated the :OC abd killed many soldiers with out provocation. We must reply strongly to deter it from such misadventures in the future.
