Nawaz-Shah meeting over NAB chief appointment cancelled

The meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah wherein both were to discuss the appointment of new National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief fixed for Friday could not be held due to the PM’s visit to Kahuta Research Laboratories.

Meanwhile, Shah said they did not want to give “political colour” to the issue of appointment of NAB chairman.

Talking to reporters in Lahore‚ Shah said he had held five meetings with the prime minister on the matter and would hold more meetings to bring an uncontroversial figure in NAB.

He said both the government and the opposition were holding consultations on the name of four personalities who enjoyed good reputation.

According to sources, all consultations between the government and the opposition have been completed through the backdoor channel and both sides have agreed upon the name of Federal Tax Ombudsman Ch Abdul Rauf as NAB chief.

Formal announcement in this connection is expected soon, the sources added.
