Christians protest across the country in anger

Agitated Christians took to the streets across the country in rage and fury over the Peshawar church massacre, blocking major highways and arteries and engaging in firing and ransacking to register their protest over the barbaric incident that claimed more than 80 lives.

They held protest demonstrations in all major cities and burned tyres to block highways between Peshawar and Karachi, as well as link roads, causing mile-long queues.

The protests severely affected routine life, while dozens of people were hurt in violence at several places.

Christians in Islamabad and Rawalpindi blocked the Expressway. The traffic mess claimed the life of a woman coming from on way from Lahore, while her son was seriously injured.

Stick-wielding protestors also beat up motorcyclists and smashed the windows of several cars.

Traffic on the Expressway remained suspended for several hours, as the police looked helplessly.

Christians also took out a rally in Blue Area of the federal capital that ended in a sit-in at D Chowk.

In Karachi, angry Christians protested at Korani, Landhi, Essa Nagri, Nazimabad, OrangiTown, Regal Chowk and other places, burnt tyres, threw stones at the vehicles and fired in the air.

Police fired tear gas shells to control the enraged masses. Several persons were injured in the pelting of stones and firing.

In Hyderabad, Christians held a protests at Latifabad No 5 and 10 and raised slogans against the terrorists.

In Lahore, protesters blocked the Lahore-Multan highway while demonstrations were held by the Lahore High Court Bar Association at GPO Chowk.

Reports of similar protests also came in from Peshawar, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Vehari, Burewala, Pakpattan, Khanewal, Chicha Watni, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Okara, Sangla Hill, Khuzdar, Karak and other places.

In Tando Muhammad Khan and Jamshoro, protests were held outside the press club, while protests were also held in Faisalabad outside the city’s press club.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of those behind the suicide attack and award of exemplary punishment to them in addition to compensation to the families of those killed and injured in the gory incident.

All churches as well as missionary schools across the country remained closed in mourning that will continue for two more days.

The protesting Christians have demanded the federal and provincial governments provide them with foolproof security.

Representatives of Christian community said police neither provided them security nor did they take adequate arrangements for their protection.

They said the Christian community and its worship places in Pakistan were becoming unsafe due to the acts of extremists.

  1. As per Imran Khan's arguments in defense of TTP barbarians, Christian and for that matter, all other religious and ethnic minorities of Pakistan would be justifiable if they took up arms against their tormentors and their silent spectators.

    • Now every political party want to talk to them following the same logic. more then 50 thousands Muslims have been killed so far how many Christians and other minorities have been killed? Terrorism is terrorism minotrities or Muslims so don't be narrow minded.
