The final deal in the Shahzeb murder case was executed by former education secretary, Sabhago Khan Jatoi, media sources reported on Thursday. Sabhago Jatoi also assisted in the transfer of the agreed amount to the account of the victim’s father. According to sources, Shahzeb’s father received Rs 150 million in cash and property worth Rs 5 million in an out-of-court settlement. As a reward, murderer Shahrukh Jatoi’s father hired Sabhago Jatoi at an important post in his cement factory. The two convicted individuals, namely Shahrukh Jatoi and Siraj Talpur, come from wealthy families in Karachi. They were convicted of killing the 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan on the night of December 24, 2012 after the university student had an argument with one of Talpur’s servants. Jatoi and Talpur were sentenced to death while life-long jail terms were awarded to Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, the two men convicted of aiding the killers. The killing led to a novel social media campaign demanding that the country’s rich and powerful be held accountable for their acts. Several days ago, Shahzeb Khan’s parents filed an affidavit with the court, pardoning the murderers. In the affidavit filed with Sindh High Court, the family states that they have decided to pardon the culprits in the name of Allah, and therefore the court is obligated to do likewise. It further states that the parents of both the parties have come to an understanding outside of court. The parents of the deceased insisted that they were under no pressure when filing the request, and have also decided not to accept any blood money from the culprit’s families.

  1. The rich can get away with murder. But a poor man is tortured and jailed for not committing any crime. This is the law we are supposed to feel safe in.

  2. Compromise has been made in strict abidance with the law of the land – a la Raymond Davis. Why such hue and cry against the wealthy and powerful on the one hand and the parents of the victim on the other.

    • Indeed you are right, change the law if you dont want to see this happening. if the deal was done under duress then its not right or else it is 100% legit. People claiming that Blood is cheaper than money would do the same. The point is the guys were convicted, forgiving them doesnt vindicate them from the label they have.

  3. The so called party of the poor, ie PPP facilitates a rich man's son to first flee to Dubai, and than buy his way out with all the state pressure exerted on Shahzeb's family.

  4. Isn’t this exactly what we are guilty of:
” ‘A’isha, the wife of Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported that the Quraish were concerned about the woman who had committed theft during the lifetime of Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him), in the expedition of Victory (of Mecca). They said: Who would speak to Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) about her?
They (again) said: Who can dare do this but Usama b Zaid, the loved one of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him)? She was brought to Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and Usama b. Zaid spoke about her to him (interceded on her behalf). The colour of the face of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) changed, and he said: Do you intercede in one of the prescribed punishments of Allah? He (Usama) said: ‘Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me. When it was dusk. Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) stood up and gave an address. He (first) glorified Allah as He deserves, and then said: Now to our topic. This (injustice) destroyed those before you that when any one of (high) rank committed theft among them, they spared him, and when any weak one among them committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, even if Fatima daughter of Muhammad were to commit theft, I would have cut off her hand. He (the Holy Prophet) then commanded about that woman who had committed theft, and her hand was cut off. ‘A’isha (further) said: Hers was a good respentance, and she later on married and used to come to me after that, and I conveyed her needs (and problems) to Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him).” [Sahih Muslim]

  5. if every powerful person of this countury will be forgiven like shahzeb, scase accuseds then government must allow the victims to leave this countary.because the poor can not live in this countury, where there is no law,no justice,no protection,no relief and no any sencier government.as the supereme court has remarked that on every chair of every government departments,a most curreptt and dishonest, officer is sitting.

  6. may god bless this un furtunate counturey with a commander like Imam khaminy of Iran, mouze tung of chaina or umer bin abdul aziz .

  7. From a single police man to the judge, every one risk their life for Shazaib..How one can ignore nation sacrifice for their child..In any case whether its a deal or not, its a very wrong decision to forgave them..
