Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that important headway has been made in connection with release of Dr Aafia and she would soon be brought back to Pakistan.

Sartaj Aziz said this while talking to media men on the eve of a paintings exhibition in a local art gallery on Saturday.

He went on to say that ever since the government had come to power they had expressed their reservations to the UN regarding drone strikes. The UN secretary general had held out assurance for playing role to stop drone attacks, he added. “We hope headway will be made next year in stopping drone attacks,” he underlined.

He told journalists that the extradition treaty was going to be signed between Pakistan and the US. Per the accord the Pakistani prisoners jailed in the US will serve their imprisonment term in Pakistan and the US prisoners held in Pakistan will serve their jail term in the US, he added.

To another question, he said Pakistan wanted peace in Afghanistan. However, they wanted dialogue with Taliban, he added.

He stated that Pakistan had already made its position clear on the situation of Syria. They were, however, awaiting the UN Security Council report on use of chemical weapons in Syria. They never supported any external interference in Syria, he added.

All the parties have been invited in All Parties Conference (APC) to deal with all the challenges facing the country and extricate Pakistan from them, he said.
