Minister for Environment Protection Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada said on Firday that a power plant utilising garbage as fuel would soon be installed in Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan.

In a statement, he said 2,000 tonnes of garbage will be sent from Lahore to DG Khan, adding that the installation of the plant help overcome the energy crisis and also resolve the problem of garbage disposal in the city.

He said the Punjab government was striving to keep the province clean and had approved a project to clean all nullahs, including the Hadyara drain in Lahore. He said after treatment of the sewage, it would be disposed in the Ravi river.

The minister said the government was considering the conduction of an external audit to make the police corruption-free and for improving the law and order in the province.
