Kahna, Gari Shahu kidnappings add to already lofty tally

A girl named Mahwish was kidnapped on gunpoint from Kahna area’s Khaloki.
Mahwish’s brother told Pakistan Today that his 15-year-old sister was and kidnapped by a resident of the same area, a man named Ilyas. He said that Ilyas entered their house along with other armed men and kidnapped his sister on gunpoint, adding that his whole village was an eyewitness of the incident.
He said that the police filed an FIR against the accused but failed to find Mahwish, adding that the police was not cooperating with him.
Furthermore, he said that although 40 hours had passed since the incident occurred, Muharrar Javid, ASI Muzafar and other police officials had not taken any action against the criminals.
ASI Muzafar told Pakistan Today that the actual facts were not being disclosed but they were trying their best to arrest Ilyas.
NOT THE ONLY INCIDENT: Another kidnapping incident occurred at Ghari Shahu’s Christian Colony where a man named Arslan Masih, assisted by a woman, kidnapped a girl, Arooj.
The girl’s father told Pakistan Today that his daughter went to purchase some household goods from a shop where she was kidnapped by Arslan.
He said that they had launched an FIR in the Ghari Shahu Police Station but the police could not recover his daughter, adding that the police was not taking serious action against the criminals.
According to the police, they were searching for the criminals as they had a lead that Arslan worked at a barber shop in the same area. The police personnel said that they had responded to the girl’s father’s request and were raiding houses including that of the accused, and would soon recover the girl.
Reports said that police had failed to recover 10 individuals including two women all of whom were kidnapped during the last five years.
REPORTS PORTRAY A DISMAL PICTURE: The reports added that 271 cases of kidnapping had been registered out of which 35 were under investigation. Furthermore, it said that more than 1,200 cases of kidnapping were those in which the family members did not want to register.
In 2008, 57 cases were recorded and are under investigation, while two out of the 36 cases registered in 2009 a are under investigation.
In 2010, 55 cases were recorded and nine are under investigation while four out of the 45 cases registered in 2012 are under investigation. In 2013, 23 cases were recorded so far, where 12 were under investigation.
In Punjab more than 1,200 kidnapping cases were recorded while 80 cases were such in which the family members did not register due to their personal reasons.
The report said that 4,961 unmarried women, 1,113 married, 586 minor boys and girls and 693 men (including young boys) were kidnapped.
Additionally, the report stated that about 100 cases of kidnapping involved the victims’ family members while 73 kidnapping cases due to old rivalries were registered.
ROBBER KILLED: A robber was killed while his accomplice managed to escape during the exchange of fire with police personnel early on Monday.
According to details, the police signaled a suspected motorcycle carrying two individuals near Johar Town’s Expo Centre to stop.
The accused started firing and tried to flee. Police personnel chased the accused and who engaged them into a nearby locality where the exchange of fire took place.
In the consequent cross-firing, one robber was killed while his cohort managed to flee from the scene.
The body of the killed was shifted to mortuary.
Police said that the culprits were fleeing after committing a robbery.
