Senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar said on Sunday that his party has started a new journey accompanied by the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and that the coalition would be in the larger interest of the country and nation.

Talking to local media at the Lahore International Airport‚ he said the MQM would support the PML-N for its every good policy.

Farooq Sattar said no single political party could resolve the issues and challenges being faced by the country as it required joint efforts.

Sattar said his party had initiated a new beginning of relations with the PML-N at the federal level and that the national issues could be solved by taking all political parties into confidence. The MQM leader said the MQM had supported the PML-N’s presidential candidate and they wanted to establish good relations with the ruling party as it was one of the biggest political parties in the country and it should be given a chance to solve problems of the masses.

He said the PML-N should also adopt a way of consultation with other parties to pull the country out of the crises. He remarked the MQM was also willing to have cordial relations with the PPP on Sindh level to solve problems in Karachi.

He announced his party would support positive policies of the federal government. Referring to the floods in the country, he said the local government system could provide basic needs to the people.

He urged that democracy should be expanded to the grass-roots level by restoration of the local bodies system having necessary powers.

Karachi could have been saved from the collapse of infrastructure during rains had there been a system of local government, Sattar commented.

“Rains would not have devastate Karachi’s infrastructure to such an extent had there been elected local bodies in the city.”

Stressing the need for unity among all members of political parties, Sattar said the MQM was supporting the PML-N at the centre and the PPP at the provincial level in Sindh.

Dr Sattar said the Sindh government had not yet disbursed salaries to 70,000 employees and they would start a campaign for their rights after the Eid.
