Sewage Water Treatment Plant installed by Capital Development Authority (CDA) at Industrial Area is posing serious threat to the health of thousands of people living in Sector I-9.

Talking to Pakistan Today, the residents of Sector I-9 complained about the foul smell emitting from the water treatment plants.

The plant which has been installed without proper mechanism for managing emission of foul smell has also caused various diseases among the residents. According to a resident, “The smell is affecting the surrounding air of the sector including health and is causing severe headaches.”

Another resident said that the children are the most affected. “The plant is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests. Pungent gasses and smells emitting from the plant is a potential health hazard and are polluting the environment, he added.

Anwar Ali, a resident of Industrial Area said, “The authorities are supposed to facilitate the people but the installation of the plant has become a serious threat to the health of the locals.” He said that they have registered many complaints with the CDA but to no avail.

A resident Hafeez Khan said that it is the duty of the authorities to take environment friendly steps. “This shows their lack of interest to protect the environment and zero keenness to provide good services to the citizens.”

CDA spokesperson Asia Gul said that the matter was not in her knowledge and that she would look into the matter.
