Monsoon spell back with a bang

Torrential rains with thunder and lightning lashed upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Kashmir on Saturday turning the weather pleasant.

Saidpur received 217 millimeters of rain, while Lahore, Gujranawala, Sialkot and some other places each received more than 100 mm rain.

Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast rain spells all over the country over the next few days.

Low lying areas in Gujranwala and adjoining areas were inundated with rainwater causing problems for the people, sources said.

Met Office predicted scattered rain and thunderstorms along with gusty winds in Kashmir, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Hazara, Bannu divisions and at isolated places of lower Sindh (Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions). The weather would remain hot and humid in other parts of the country.

According to the Met Office, a seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan and adjoining areas with its trough extending towards southeast. Monsoon currents were reaching into upper parts of the country and would continue till Tuesday, the Met Office reported.
