Minister for improving functioning of literary centers

Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education Minister Engr Balighur Rehman on Wednesday directed the officials of National Education Foundation (NEF) to take concrete steps for improving the functioning of literary centers across the country. He was chairing the meeting of Board of Governors of NEF held in the Ministry of Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education. The minister urged the officials to conduct unannounced inspections of the literary centers and strengthen their monitoring and evaluation system to improve efficiency and service delivery of the centers. He emphasised extending proper educational support or scholarships for the needy or deserving students. He said quality education could be achieved by following the key principles of transparency and merit. Rehman also directed officials to increase the amount being paid as a reward to deserving students to further motivate them. The minister called for a follow-up meeting to discuss in detail the basic issues regarding the NEF. Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education Secretary Ahmed Baksh Lehri, Planning and Development former secretary Fazal Ullah, Member National Assembly Nasir Khattak, Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Nazir Sangi and NEF Managing Director Abdul Jalil attended the meeting.
